Nigeria Air Force Tsaigumi not gulma

The Nigeria Air Force has waded into the controversy over whether President Muhammadu Buhari commissioned the same drone that his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, commissioned several years ago.

The Air Force said the two leaders commissioned different drones.

NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, AVM Olatokunbo Adesanya, made the clarification in a statement issued on Friday.

He said what President Buhari commissioned was the Air Force’s operational unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) “Tsaigumi”, which is more advanced than its earlier produced Amebo and Gulma UAV prototypes. Jonathan commissioned Gulma.

Adesanya said that it has become necessary to make this clarification, due to certain misconceptions that followed the announcement of the induction of Tsaigumi.

“To set the records straight, while Gulma UAV is indeed the first indigenous UAV, the newly inducted Tsaigumi UAV is the first indigenous operational UAV.

“Both UAV types are the outcomes of research and development efforts of a team of NAF Aerospace engineers.

“NAF’s foray into UAV development commenced in 2008, when its students officers who were undergoing postgraduates studies in aerospace engineering programmes at Cranfield University, UK, chose UAV development as their research project,” he said.

He said that the student officers produced the Amebo UAV as part of thier project, adding that it had neither autopilot nor intelligence surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capability.

He said that Gulma was an experimental UAV, which was developed in 2013, as a technological demonstrator used to gather performance data on UAV systems.

”The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, directed the NAF’s R and D (research and development ) team to build an operational UAV, code named Tsaigumi to be used in the North east and other theatres of operation in Nigeria,” Adesanya said.

He said that the data gathered from Gulma prototype was plied in the design of operational UAV, Tsaigumi, which was inducted on Feb.15.

Tsiaguma was unveiled and inducted by President Muhammadu Buhari on Feb.15 in Kaduna.

The spokesman of the force further said that NAF is currently working on the “Ichoku” which when completed would be the first indigenous unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV)

president buhari shutdown three embassy due to insufficient fund

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama (left), said the closure of the embassies is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda s]

While speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said operations have been shut down in Sri Lanka, Czech Republic and the Republic of Serbia while the embassy in Ukraine has been drastically downsized.

He said the ministry has been unable to maintain the embassies due to insufficient funds, thereby enforcing the shutdowns because they’re left in terrible states unbefitting of the nation’s status.

He said, “Every embassy has written to us about their huge financial demands and when we go to these embassies we see clearly very unattractive state that does not reflect well on the country.

“Very often the staff of the embassy really find things extremely difficult. Clearly, if we want to operate on the scale and scope in which we are at the moment with over a 100 missions around the world, we need to spend a lot more.

“What I am saying is that rather than having this terrible circle of inadequate funding for missions, headquarters and so forth we have to reduce the scope.

“We should have foreign missions that we can fund, we might not necessarily close the embassies per se, it might be reducing the number of staff in the embassies.”

80 of Nigeria’s embassies abroad were not captured for funding in the 2019 appropriation bill submitted to the National Assembly by President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Buhari will be sworn in for a second term on May 29, 2019 [Presidency]

While defending the budget estimate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs before the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs in April, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mustapha Suleiman, said only 30 embassies can be funded with the capital votes earmarked in the budget.

Since he was inaugurated in 2015, President Buhari has been vocal about reducing Nigeria’s total of 119 foreign missions.

In September 2015, he announced that a committee would undertake a review of Nigerian foreign missions to determine those that are really essential so that appropriate standards and quality can be maintained.

“Let’s keep only what we can manage. We can’t afford much for now. There’s no point in pretending,” he told officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Nembe To Yola To Split Grace From Mercy

Nembe to Yola to split Grace from Mercy
  • How Bayelsa conjoined twins, considered monsters in their village, were separated in Yola

Since they were born, conjoined twins Mercy and Grace were considered monsters in their native Nembe in Bayelsa State. The family travelled to the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, where a team of about 50 medical professionals have given the twins a new lease of life.

Professor Awwal Abubakar, the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yola, looked at the 49 men and women before him, perhaps, in the same manner, a general would look at his troops before they charge into battle.

But this 49 were not going to kill anyone, they were preparing for a complex surgery to separate a set of conjoined twins, Mercy and Grace.

As the lead surgeon, Prof. Abubakar addressed members of his team comprising surgeons, consultant anaesthetists, nurses, laboratory consultant and scientists, radiologist, cleaners, and staff from the hospital’s information unit, among others.

The team of medical professionals at FMC Yola that seperated the twins

In his usual unassuming posture, the professor emphasised teamwork, professionalism and accuracy, reminding them that every member of the team is as important as the others.

“In surgery, a cleaner is as important as the lead surgeon,” the Medical Director would later tell Daily Trust.

He is not new to this. Four times before he had performed similar surgeries on conjoined twins, twice at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Borno.

At the FMC Yola, Prof. Abubakar has undertaken two such surgeries before. Once in 2013 as a visiting consultant and again in 2018 after he was appointed the Medical Director when he led the surgery on a set of female twins born to internally displaced parents from Borno State.

The team recorded some improvement compared to previous times as the surgery was faster, taking only three hours.

Speaking after the surgery, Professor Abubakar said this time, the team had to contend with the challenges of COVID-19. There was a debate about whether each member of the team should be quarantined before the surgery. In the end, they decided to work strictly per the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) guidelines.

Three days after the operation, the separated sisters started playing and with no complication recorded, were discharged from the intensive care unit on the fifth day.

The operation gave hope to twins, Mercy and Grace, from far away Nembe, in Bayelsa State, freeing their parents from stigmatisation in their community where they were seen as monsters.

The sight of the twins, at first was such a shock that even their mother, Mrs Ayebaekipreye Ebinyefa, after she was delivered of them through Caesarean Section, took one look at them and fainted.

“Mhmm! As a mum, I was scared. I felt bad because I was the first person to give birth to conjoined twins in my community in Bayelsa State,” she said. “The insults I have been receiving from people made me even ashamed of myself. But now I am happy the operation has been successful and today, we are going home.”

She thanked the management of FMC Yola for their generosity, without which the operation wouldn’t have been possible.

Beautiful girls Mercy and Grace being held by their parents after recovering from the successful surgery

Professor Abubakar told journalists during a press conference that the hospital’s management sponsored the surgery free of charge and paid for all the treatment and living expenses of the family throughout their stay since January.

He, however, called on the Federal and Bayelsa State government to assist the parents

“Both parents are secondary school leavers and unemployed. We want the federal and Bayelsa State governments to assist them,” he said.

He said after the management of the Federal Medical Center, Yenogoa in Bayelsa State contacted the Yola hospital for possible separation, transporting the babies to Yola became a problem until the Nigerian Air Force offered to fly them in one of their aircrafts. He, therefore, extended his appreciation to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

He said the NAF intervention was critical because taking a commercial plane was not a good option for conjoined twins due to the attention they could attract and the psychological effect on the parents.

“At this junction, we want to appreciate the NAF especially the Chief of Air Staff for airlifting them,” he said.

“For this hospital, this is the third of such separations. The separation of conjoined twins in this country dates back to 1936 when a colonial officer separated a set in Sokoto and since then, there have been a number in many centres in Zaria, Enugu, Ife and recently in Gwagwalada and in Keffi,” he said.

He noted that Nigeria has the manpower and potentials to drive the health sector but health care financing remains a major drawback.

Calling for collaboration between public and private sectors in improving health care in the country, the medical director disclosed that some of the equipment used in the separation was part of the recent donation from the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas company (NLNG).

“One of the machines donated by the NLNG made division of liver easier, faster and with less blood loss,” he said in an address during a ceremony held at the hospital on Saturday to celebrate the successful surgery.

President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by the Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha, congratulated the board and management of the hospital, Professor Awwal Abubakar and his team of experts for making Nigerians proud, saying their effort showed the great potential of the Nigerian health sector.

He assured the FMC Yola management of federal government’s support in the drive to transform the hospital into a world-class facility for better service delivery.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Maxwell Gidado reiterated the state government’s commitment in improving the health sector, saying the administration had employed more than one thousand workers and improved welfare for greater service delivery in the state.

For Grace and Mercy, this surgery will make all the difference in their lives and give them the chance to live normal lives. For now, that is all they could ask for.

18 Gombe Children Rescued From Traffickers Remain Unclaimed In Anambra

Eleven children said to have been stolen from Gombe and trafficked to Anambra have been returned to police in Anambra after relatives failed to come forward to identify them

They bring to 18 the number of unclaimed children police in Anambra have received.

The children are suspected to have been stolen by a woman named as Hauwa Usman on 20 October 2019 in Gombe and taken to her accomplice in Anambra.

Gombe police returned to Anambra after no relatives came forward to identify them.

Last October police following intelligence report arrested three women in Idemili north council area with three children suspected to have been stolen.

“Investigations revealed that the children were stolen from Gombe State by one Hauwa Usman ‘f” on the 20/10/2019 and brought to her accomplices in Anambra State,” said Anambra police spokesman DSP Mohammed Haruna.

Parents of the children travelled from Gombe to Awka to identify their children.

Anambra police handed the suspects over to Gombe police command for investigation and prosecution.

The suspects during interrogation in Gombe confessed they steal children to bring to their “sponsor”—named as Nkechi Odinye, 55—in Anambra.

She paid between N200,000 and N400,000 per child depending on age and gender, police said the suspects confessed.

Operatives from Anambra’s Special Anti-Cult Section raided a hideout in Obosi, Idemili North council area where a tipoff had led them to believe the principal suspect Odinye stayed.

Two married men allegedly gang-r@pe 11-year-old girl in Abia

Two married men allegedly gang raped an 11-year-old girl at Ndiolumbe Nvosi village in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State.

The incident happened on Sunday, August 20, 2023, when the victim’s mother, a widow, sent her on an errand.

The Abia State coordinator of Behind Bars Human Rights Defenders, Ochiegbu Marvelous, who confirmed the incident on Tuesday, August 22, said one of the suspects identified simply as Ezigbo, has been arrested while efforts are being made to apprehend the other.

He also revealed that certain persons want the victim’s mother to ‘settle’ the case out of court.

“We are a group of human rights activists and lawyers that hate injustice. I felt bad today receiving these complaints from a poor widow in Nvosi Isiala Ngwa. In her words “Nwam biko come and help me ooo. They raped my 11year old girl ooo and they are talking about settlement,” Mr. Ochiegbu.

“We are fully representing the little girl. We don’t accept settlement of any kind. Just imagine this little girl to be your daughter and someone did this to her? What will be your actions? They kept mute!

“The case is currently reported to Area command Isialangwa Police station But am not comfortable seeing a male Police Constable (IPO) handling a case of Child defilement, I thought a female officer should do that best. They will be charged to court as soon as the investigation is over by the police.”

Narrating her ordeal, the victim said one of the suspects, Ezigbo, had been harassing her.

“My mommy sent me on errand on Sunday evening. On my way I saw Ezigbo and he told me to come. I told him to leave me and that I am not interested in whatever he wanted to say,” she said.

“After delivering the message, I wanted to pass the same road but changed my mind as he may catch me. I decided to follow a backyard road. As I was about to pass a school, Ezigbo appeared out of nowhere. He said ‘I finally caught you’,”

“I ran away and he chased me. I took refuge in Dee Sunday’s house but the man was not around. I stayed a while in the house. I thought Ezigbo had left but when I came out of the house, he and the other man, who is also from my village, caught me.

“Ezigbo covered my mouth so wouldn’t be able to scream for help. He and the other man dragged me to one place where they tore my clothes and pant and raped me.”

South African woman sentenced to 13 years imprisonment for killing her live-in boyfriend after he came home with another lady

A 26-year-old woman, Dieketseng Sello, was sentenced to 13 years of direct imprisonment for the murder of her boyfriend, Isaac Molai Moleko,31, in South Africa.

Sello was sentenced by the Pretoria High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Thursday, August 31, 2023. The court deemed her unfit to possess a firearm.

The court heard that on the evening of 18 June 2021, the deceased (also known as Skills or Lai Lai) went with another female to a home he shared with Sello in Kotshong.

While inside the house, a fight broke out between Sello and the deceased. After the fight, the deceased accompanied the other female home. Upon his return, the fight resumed between the two.

During the fight, Sello stabbed the deceased several times. She then asked the neighbours to take the deceased to the nearby clinic where he was declared dead on arrival. The neighbours called the police, and Sello was arrested on the scene.

In court, Sello pleaded guilty to the charge preferred against her and asked the court through her legal representative to deviate from the prescribed minimum sentence as she has 4 minor children to take care of and is remorseful of her action.

However, during the sentencing proceedings advocate Micheal Shivuri brought to the attention of the court that while released on bail on this matter Sello was convicted and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment for theft in February 2023, further while she was being transported back to Sun City prison from attending court she escaped and was later arrested and sentenced to 1-year direct imprisonment.

Furthermore, Shivuri told the court that Sello showed no remorse for her actions and that according to the pre-sentence report compiled by the social worker, it was not the first time Sello assaulted the deceased.

Moreover, Sello robbed her children of a father figure, and the same children will have to grow up without both parents and therefore he asked the court to hand down a sentence that fits the crime.

When handing down the sentence, Judge Mlotswa agreed with the state that Sello showed no remorse because instead of apologizing to the family of the deceased she moved on with her life, stayed with another man, and gave birth to more children.

Her actions were very cold and heartless, and they showed how emotionally unaffected she was because she referred to the deceased as a dog, Mlotswa said.

Furthermore, he said the children were traumatized by her actions which resulted in her depriving them of a father.

“Lastly, the offense Sello committed was very serious and prevalent in our country. As such, society expects courts to pass sentences to deter such criminals. Therefore, it is the duty of the court to send a message that such crimes will not be tolerated,” the judge added.

The toxic relationship between the deceased and Sello started in 2016 and was apparently “on-off” from there. She had, according to his family, stabbed him before.

26-Yr-Old Woman Who Went Missing After Boarding Taxi Found Dead In Abuja

LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A 26-year-old woman, Blessing Karami who was declared missing in Abuja, has been found dead.

According to earlier reports, Blessing, who was a student of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), was declared missing after leaving her place of work and boarding a vehicle from Area 3 junction in Abuja to Lugbe, where she stays but never got home.

The deceased’s elder brother, Genesis Moses Karami, who travelled from Kaduna to Abuja to lead the search said her decomposing body was found in the bush in the Karmo district of the Federal Capital Territory.

It was gathered that the Police had arrested one Aminu, the boyfriend of the deceased who was questioned regarding her disappearance.

According to Genesis Karami, he received a strange call giving details about his sister’s body but it turned out to be false.

The caller said he saw a female body in Idu, so we asked him to describe what she was wearing, and he told us exactly what we were told my sister wore to the office the day she went missing,” the brother told the police.

According to Karami, after he kept trying to contact the DPO and it proved abortive, he had to go to the Police station at Karmo, but upon reaching there with a group of Policemen, the caller kept toying with them as he kept changing locations until they got tired and left.

Karami, however, confirmed to journalists on Wednesday, that his sister had indeed died.

“We saw her decomposed body in the bush here at Karmo, it’s not something we can move, we have to arrange with the environmental people to come and help us pack,” Karami said.

“We cannot travel with it. We just have to bury it here. It seems she died for days due to the nature of the decomposition,” the deceased’s brother disclosed.

99% of Nigerian pastors are Yahoo Boys. The church building and congregation are the WIFI connection – US-based Nigerian doctor says

A US-based Nigerian medical doctor, Stan, has compared Nigerian pastors to internet fraudsters while stating that the church building and members are the laptop and WIFI connection, respectively.

Dr. Stan, who stated this on X on Sunday, September 24, said he and his wife stopped attending a particular church because the pastor and music director make $80,000 and $70,000.

“My wife and I stopped attending a church a year ago because we think it’s wrong for a pastor and music director of a small church be making $80,000 and $70,000 This guys get their food, utilities, and house paid for by the church. This means they are in the top earners in America. This is not the design intended by Jesus. Nigeria is way way worse!! The church should be a place where people get lifted up, cared for, and looked after,” he said.

“Church is about community, care, love, and fellowship Jesus started his ministry with feeding the 5,000 If you are not going to church that has this pointers, my dear, your pastor is a yahoo boy!! The church building is the laptop and the members are the wifi connection
